Just finished watching, in a slightly chaotic order, DS9's first season, Stargate SG-1's fifth, and everything we could find of The Big Bang Theory (which was, of all the comedy shows I've seen over the past years, the one that made me laugh loudest and most often! Engineering and physics jokes made me all nostalgic, *sigh*. Not to mention the references to various obscure and less obscure fandoms - game of Klingon Boggle, anyone?).

The logical next question is, which show to watch now? Unfortunately, said question isn't so straightforward to answer, given that I just received a whole hard drive's worth of sci-fi series from a gracious colleague and co-geek, and husband got half a hard-drive's worth of mostly comedy shows from one of his colleagues not so long ago, which we're still only halfway through. So, dear flist, I was hoping you could give me some much-needed advice. Below is the list of possible choices. Which shows, when you watched them back in the time, exceeded your expectations? Which ones have you watched a dozen times and still haven't grown tired of? And which made you wail and curse because you thought they were crap but couldn't stop watching anyway?

I'm afraid I don't know enough of these show to vote, but here's my two cents anyway.
The 4400, while not exactly bad, was mostly disappointing and easily forgettable. Skip it. Doctor Who s3 was, imo, better that s2.
Also, you should totally consider Deadwood. Because Deadwood is great and needs more fic.
(And if you decide to go for Lost s5, tell me if it was worth the price or if I should just wait for some kind relative to give it to me as a Christmas present:))

Lost S5: gah, couldn't stop myself. We bought it this week-end - because we still had this gift voucher, you see, and it's only valid until January, so there really wasn't any reason not to buy Lost with it... now, was there? *facepalm* I have no resilience in this, really.
The first two episodes are promising, in any case! More of Ben Linus always makes my day!

And another vote for Dr Who s3, yay!
I caught some glimpses of Deadwood while it was on TV, but not enough to get a feel of whether I'd like it. On the other hands, the DVDs are ridiculously cheap around here, so... *twiddles*

And - how's the NaNo!?? Are you nearing the finish line, or is there still a week of mild or not-so-mild panic to overcome? :) Anyway: Go, you, write! Yes! Whoo!

Ben is a strange one, isn't he? I found him incredibly annoying the first time he appeared on screen, but he started to grow on me pretty quickly, and as to the end of season 4, he (almost) is my favourite character. (Locke is still my number, at least for now.)

About the NaNo: you know, I might actually win. I only have 5000 words to go and, barring exceptionally bad luck in the next few days, I should finish this on time.
I'm not bragging until it's all over, though. That will be my sweet, sweet reward.

I have no suggestions because I watch almost everything way after it's aired (like you know, 10 years or so!) I know I liked DS9 very much when it was on, but I don't remember much about it.

DW S3 is good, but S4 is better.

I finally watched Serenity and like it well enough, though the Mal kind of hero drives me a little mad. So maybe Firefly?

Sorry! No help here!

Oh, sure you've been of help; any excuse for me to buy more New Who is extremely welcome! :) Given the amount of other stuff we have lying around, the thought of spending money on something new makes me feel a little bit guilty - which isn't to say that I'll probably do it anyway. I just need another nudge or two. *g*

I'm a bit in two minds about DS9, really. We got the S1 DVDs on loan, and while I like it mostly, I don't really have that urge to continue watching. But we did buy S2 and S3 a while back (sale on Amazon, y'know) so I'm feeling kind of obliged to start on those. Which is not the best of reasons to watch something, I know, but still... And it's supposed to get better after that first season, right?
