It probably sounds weird as hell to be thanking you for telling me I managed to make you all weepy - but thank you! :) And I'm sure happy fluffy fic will follow! This isn't the first time I've written canon character death, but it is the first time in this fandom, and it was very strange and pretty hard to get through writing that last bit.
And, well, I figured since I've written the story with the happy ending where everything turns out fine, it was only fair that I write the opposite as well. I do have a thing for tragic deaths, and for the classic irony that death, in some cases, really can be a kinder fate than life. And the reason I made it a accident is that I don't think either Cooper or Albert would have willingly chosen that fate for Cooper. And I'm kind of amazed no one else seems to have written aTP fic in which Cooper got killed at the end. It seems - one of the more obvious possible fates for him, I'd say, and setting his soul free I definitely see as a good thing, even if it's hell on the people who stay behind.
Hope you don't mind my asking - did the fic as a whole work for you? I had a bit of a hard time to, on one hand, keep the separate bits short enough to make a coherent whole, but still include just enough detail that the reader could piece together what was going on, without making it too much of an infodump. I usually end up making everything way too long and detailed, so here I consciously tried to stick to the emotion and keep the plotty facts to a minimum. I'd be very interested to get your feeling on if and to what extent that worked, whether there are parts where I gave to much or too little detail, stuff like that. If you have the time, of course. :)
