I've been thinking about this comment off and on for a couple of days and I feel quite lucky because it makes the story just that much richer! It makes total sense and I think your portrayal of them both being right comes off really well. I think I meant obsessive mostly in the sense that Cooper seems like he cannot and does not want to stop to feeling and thinking about this -- but you're right, that is something he would do. It is perfectly and wonderfully him.
