I do sometimes feel like the Sarek/Amanda relationship is pretty imbalanced, and I find it kind of problematic how often it seems like the illogical woman being indulged.

Yeah, I agree - they way it's shown in 'Journey to Babel', it feels like the kind of relationship no sane human could be in for years and survive. :) I guess in aiming for the humorous note, the writers forgot about realism for a moment. Most of what I've adopted in the way of canon comes from the novels (have you read Sarek?), where I recall Sarek/Amanda as being portrayed in a much more positive light. And Amanda as a quite stubborn woman, worthy of Sarek in all ways.
