B5 vid "Saved the World Today"

Finally, 1 September has arrived, and with it [livejournal.com profile] ruuger's yearly B5 Love Month, hosted over at [livejournal.com profile] babylon5_love. It's my very first contribution there, on the very first posting date of 2009, and that with the very first fanvid I ever made... can you believe I'm a teensy bit nervous? *bounces*

Anyway, about the vid: despite me being a Centauri-and-Narn (and to a somewhat lesser degree, Minbari) lover, I managed to make it an ensemble piece after all! That's to say, two-thirds is ensemble, the middle third is - well, take a guess. *g* Don't be deceived by the optimistic title: it is decidedly angsty, though the final part should bring some comfort, at least.

As I mentioned, I'm new to this whole vidding thing, so feel free to point out any stuff I might have handled better - I'm all up for learning!

The direct Youtube link is here, while these are downloadable versions in MPG  (huge file, 200 MB) and AVI-DIVX (a slightly more normal 50 MB). I noticed the Youtube clip tends to be sluggish the first time it's played... If that happens, just let it play once all the way through without peeking; the second time (once it's in the cache, I assume?) it should be much better! The lyrics are right below the embedded Youtube thingy.

So, here you go. Please, enjoy!

Saved the World Today - Eurythmics

Monday finds you like a bomb
That’s been left there ticking there too long
You’re bleeding
Some days there's nothing left to learn
From the point of no return
You're leaving

Hey, hey, I saved the world today
Everybody’s happy now the bad thing's gone away
And everybody’s happy now the good thing’s here to stay
Please let it stay

There’s a million mouths to feed
But I’ve got everything I need
I’m breathing
There’s a hurting thing inside
But I’ve got everything to hide
I'm grieving

Hey, hey, I saved the world today
Everybody’s happy now the bad thing's gone away
And everybody’s happy now the good thing’s here to stay
Please let it stay

Doo doo doo doo doo, the good thing ...

I'm having a hell of a day (and a very busy one), so discovering your vid was a welcome, gorgeously angsty relief. Will try for more intelligent feedback at a later point, but for now: this is an awesome first vid, and captures the minor and major tragedies among the triumphs of B5 very well.

Thank you! And sorry to hear about your day - I hope it was at least the type that you could leave behind you when you got home, rather than having to drag it along...

Very glad you enjoyed the vid! I tried to divide my attention more or less equally over the main characters (well, apart from Londo, of course: he got special treatment *g*) and I'm still not quite sure if I pulled that off... Sinclair and Lochley, for example, only got one brief shot each. But all in all, I'm quite happy with how it turned out! More intelligent feedback would be very welcome - not that I'm implying this feedback is unintelligent, as it certainly isn't! :) - but a critical voice always makes me happy. (Of course, it's great to have people squeeing "zomg, loved this!", but I'm sure there are plenty of things about it that could've been done better, too...) So: please, yes, comment all you like!

(By the way, is it just me, or do people really find it very hard to post criticism to - well, to anything really: fics, vids... - even when they're asked for it? Most commenters only state what they like about something, which is all fun and wonderful and ego-stroking, but also fails to reassure me at some level, because... Well, there's so much rubbish on the web that gets praised to death, so praise clearly is no guarantee for quality. :) A good critical comment, on the other hand, tells a lot more; as does giving a reason for why you liked something - which is what you tend to do, I've noticed (thanks for that!). At least, that's how I feel. How is it with your fics - do people post criticism too, at times, or only very rarely?)
