I personally think he was able to see the good in Londo that was buried so deep, nobody else could see it -including, maybe, Londo himself.

Yes, I agree. Isn't that what Vir told Delenn and Lennier, right in the ugly middle of the Centauri occupation: that there was a light in Londo, and one day he would surprise them all? (and did he ever... *sob*) And maybe also that Vir knew, deep down, that Londo needed him; that he really didn't have anyone except for Vir. I don't think Vir has ever been needed by anyone before.

As for what the future hold for them, it depends on how far you look.

You know, that's almost exactly what I replied to that commenter. :) Though I have to admit my first thought was: yes, he'll make it all right for Centauri Prime, but not for Londo. But then I thought: the knowledge of Vir being destined to succeed him after he died may well have been the one thing that kept Londo going all those years. So in that sense, Vir does "save" Londo too, at the end, allowing him to die with hope for the future.

Oh, hell, I'm getting all choked up here thinking about hope and sacrifices and death... (Fortunately, there's the Londo & G'Kar h/c discussion, which is very cheering indeed *g*)
