Thanks, very happy you liked! And, hey, I'm impossibly squeamish myself, so I'm glad I stopped where I did. *g* But going into more technical detail would have required more knowledge than I could easily pick up on Wikipedia; and besides, it's already been done far better than I ever could, by someone who actually does have first-hand knowledge! (you read that Yuletide story, 'And the devil makes three', didn't you? Now there was an autopsy, clamps and bowels and everything. ;) )

Re: the contrast - I was kind of aiming for that, so glad to hear it worked for you. The last paragraph especially: Albert basically telling Cooper to take Maddy apart, which I still wanted to come across as an intimate moment, something between the three of them, even with Maddy dead. (And yeah, of all Twin Peaks characters, Maddy is still the one my heart breaks for, too.) I figure, when you've lived with violent death as long as these boys have, an autopsy in itself wouldn't be a hard thing to do - just a necessity, going through the motions. But that doesn't mean there's less respect for the dead themselves. Well, sure, Albert acted like a royal bastard over Laura's funeral. But from where he stood, giving up her body for the funeral wouldn't matter to Laura, just to her family, and I don't think he thought he owed them anything. Instead I think Albert pays his respect to the dead by making sure they didn't die for nothing, and if he has to scandalize some family members for that, so be it. So in that way I think that opening Maggy up together really *was* a way for him and Cooper to pay respect to her, working together to make sure her death meant something. If that makes sense. (babbling again :) )

Albert and the elephant - well. I kind of cannot get the image out of my head now. *g* There really should be a disclaimer on the Twin Peaks DVDs: Caution! Channeling Albert Rosenfield May Have Unpredictable Effects On One's Sanity. (Not to mention, um, one's people skills? *smirks* )
