It makes perfect sense, and it was how I felt when writing, too: that there needed to be some closure at the end, however small. And I'm still figuring out the kind of man "my Cooper" is, really. With Albert, I'm pretty much on the side of "firmly gay, always has been" (which makes me love him even more as a character, as it's the first I've written from that perspective). With Coop, though, I don't know. He's certainly very deliberate about those things, or has been since Caroline anyway, so I don't see him kissing anyone, man or woman, on a whim either. But he might do it for other reasons: to make a point, to offer some kind of comfort, I don't know. He has that special kind of morality - deep but unconventional - where I can just see him having that kind of messy relationship with someone for some ethereal reason that no one else understands. :) In fact, I had a whole justification ready for that kiss, till the point where I realized it would feel like Cooper doting out charity to Albert, and how I didn't want that. I wanted "my Albert" to be strong, and fully Coop's equal... because he is, you know, even though their strengths and weaknesses are entirely different. If that makes sense. :)
